Edmond city ordinance requires pet owners to pick up waste

Dog walking

Don’t forget the baggie when you head out the door with Fido, it’s the law. The City of Edmond requires pet owners to be able to pick up pet waste in sidewalks, public parks — and of course neighborhood yards and right of way.

See the ordinance below. This law is enforced by Edmond Animal Control.

Edmond City Code

7.09.015 – Defecating on sidewalks, public parks, alleys other places open to the public or on certain private property prohibited; possession of waste removal equipment required; prohibition of public similar nuisance.

(a) No owner, keeper, or person having control of any animal or fowl shall fail to immediately remove and dispose of in a sanitary manner any solid waste deposited by such animal or fowl upon any sidewalk, public park, alley, other place open to the public, or from private property before the owner leaves the immediate area where the solid waste was deposited.

(b) No owner, keeper, or person having control of any animal or fowl shall fail to have in his/her possession the equipment necessary to remove his/her animal’s solid waste when accompanied by said animal or fowl on public property.

(c) No owner, keeper or person having control of any animal or fowl shall permit such animal or fowl to destroy or damage property or any kind or to deposit solid waste or to commit a similar nuisance on the private property of a person or the property of the City, including its parks and playgrounds, or any property other than that of the owner of the animal or fowl.
